Who We Are Donating to This Holiday Season

Who We Are Donating to This Holiday Season

On Saturday, November 19, a gunman entered a gay club in Colorado Springs and opened fire on the patrons, killing 5 and injuring many more. This senseless murder and violence comes from ignorance and hatred, and has no place in our society. While we can't change the past, we can make positive changes to our future.

We look to do our part this season by donating 50% of our profits to The Trevor Project in response to the violence against the LGBTQ+ community. If you are unfamiliar with The Trevor Project, allow me to give you a brief overview of what they do. And as always, there is no pressure to purchase from the shop. Here is a link to directly donate to them.

The Trevor Project is a nonprofit organization that offers crisis intervention and suicide prevention programs, including The Trevor Lifeline, TrevorText, and TrevorChat, and peer-to-peer support for LGBTQ youth, TrevorSpace. The Trevor Lifeline is the only national, 24/7, 365-day-a-year crisis intervention and suicide prevention hotline for LGBTQ youth in the U.S.

The Trevor Project focuses funding on two main areas, training counselors and advocacy. They use funding to train volunteers and employees to man the hotlines and be available to whoever needs their help at any time. They additionally use funding to fight for LGBTQ-friendly legislation and opposing anti-LGBTQ rhetoric/political positions. There is additionally a research arm that identifies the most effective means of helping young LGBTQ people who are experiencing crises.

The Trevor Project estimates that over 1.8 million LGBTQ+ youth in the United States are seriously considering suicide every year, and at least one LGBTQ+ youth attempts suicide every 45 seconds across the United States. The holiday season and after times of tragedy causes an increase in these statistics. If you are someone who is thinking of suicide and are in need of immediate support, you can call the Trevor Lifeline at 1-866-488-7386 or connect on TrevorChat online to speak to a counselor.

We send nothing but love and peace to everyone during this holiday season.
